Most career prep programs focus on students who already have a head start—top schools, strong networks, impressive internships. We were tired of watching motivated, capable students get overlooked just because they didn’t fit that mold. So we created something different.
Our team of educators, innovators, and career mentors came together with one goal: to help students stand out, no matter where they go to school or what’s on their resume. From day one, we designed the fellowship around what actually works: real-world experience, credentials that matter, and flexible pathways that support real lives.
We launched quietly on just a few campuses. But students kept telling their friends, faculty kept nominating more students, and employers kept coming back for more. Now we’ve certified over 500 Fellows, built partnerships with 50+ campuses, and earned accreditation from both WASC and Array Global.
Along the way, we’ve helped students not only land competitive jobs but also gain acceptance to top grad schools, thanks to the real-world innovation work and nationally recognized credentials they earn here. Whether they’re building resumes, writing personal statements, or sitting in interviews, our Fellows have one thing most students don’t: a story that proves they’re ready.
We’re not here to hand out empty awards or collect dues. We’re here to level the playing field—one project, one credential, one empowered student at a time. And we’re just getting started.
The National Innovation Council began as Tele-Brigades, a virtual initiative under Global Medical Brigades. This program allowed students to contribute to global healthcare remotely, consulting on real patient cases from countries like Honduras and Ghana. It offered a way to make meaningful impact—without international travel—while building experience in global medicine and public health.
To grow beyond individual projects, Global Brigades and several mission-driven partners launched the Council for Global Health Scholars (CGHS). This initiative established a nationwide chapter network and academic Fellowship focused on healthcare innovation. Students could now lead local chapters, join global teams, and gain recognition for work that addressed urgent health challenges worldwide.
To meet rising demand across disciplines, CGHS rebranded as the National Innovation Council (NIC). Our mission expanded to support students in fields like education, engineering, law, and technology. With Honors Fellowships, a growing chapter system, and access to real-world consulting, NIC became the launchpad for students seeking to innovate in their careers and communities.
